Ziegert Immobilien – Your partner for freehold apartments in Berlin Mitte

As the name suggests, the Mitte district lies in the city centre of Berlin. Until 2001, this was an autonomous district, until it was merged with the Tiergarten and Wedding districts. Those who talk of “Mitte” today generally refer to the district as it was. A tip for those who are new in Berlin: one says “I live in Mitte” and not “I live in the Mitte”!

Mitte is the historical central district of Berlin. Almost 80,000 people live on an area of just about 10 sq km. On account of its long history, numerous historic quarters and neighbourhoods have developed on a relatively small area, including Friedrichstadt, Luisenstadt and Spandauer Vorstadt.

Mitte – more attractions that anywhere else in Berlin

No other district in Berlin can deliver quite so many attractions. It hosts the TV tower at Alexanderplatz, the Rotes Rathaus (Red City Hall) directly nearby, the prestigious boulevard Unter den Linden, where the state opera, Neue Wache (New Guardhouse) and the Humboldt University are located, and naturally the Brandenburg Gate.

There is of course Museum Island with the Pergamon Museum, the Old National Gallery, the Bode Museum and the Old and New Museums.

Freehold apartments at the centre of German history

There is also the German Historical Museum at the Old Arsenal, the Gendarmenmarkt, perhaps the most beautiful square in Berlin, important religious buildings such as Berlin Cathedral, St. Hedwig Cathedral and the Synagogue in Oranienburger Strasse, as well as architectural gems such as the Hackesche Höfe or the Nikolaiviertel area. Rest assured: this list of major sights is in no way exhaustive!

The river Spree flows right through the centre of Mitte. Numerous cruise companies offer delightful excursions. Even “ashore”, the central district is highly accessible. Berlin’s east - west axes cross at the commuter and underground railway (S-Bahn and U-Bahn) intersection at Friedrichstrasse station, which means that practically every district in Berlin is within easy reach of Mitte.
