Ziegert Immobilien – Competence in the freehold apartments market in Berlin-Kreuzberg
Since Berlin’s local authority reorganisation in 2001, Kreuzberg has been part of the district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. Before that it was independent. From the 1970s up to reunification, a unique alternative culture developed in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, which then surrounded the district on three sides. Much of this culture remains preserved today.
From the hole in the wall to the city centre:
Kreuzberg is the centre
Around 160,000 people live in Kreuzberg today. One third of those are migrants or their descendants. However the population structure has changed much over the years. More and more young and affluent people are moving into the neighbourhood. As a result, Kreuzberg is no longer a hole in the wall, but now lies in the very centre of Berlin. And quite literally: a granite plaque on Alexandrinenstrasse bears testimony: this is the geographical centre of the German capital.
Freehold apartments in Berlin’s trendy spot
Kreuzberg remains a trendy spot with countless pubs, bars and restaurants. Night-time revellers come here at some cost. The area is even in fashion again with young families.
Kreuzberg offers many sights. A must for tourists is the former wall crossing control point Checkpoint Charlie. The Martin-Gropius-Bau offers first rate art and historical exhibitions all year round. The Jewish Museum in the unique, zigzag shaped Libeskind-Bau in Lindenstrasse guides the visitor through two thousand years of German Jewish history. The German Technical Museum receives some 600,000 visitors per year. As well as the Victoria Park, the green banks of the Landwehr canal and Görlitz Park offer somewhere to relax.
As Kreuzberg lies in the centre of Berlin, it is of course very well connected by public transport. The underground lines U1 and U7 traverse the district in an east - west direction and the U 8 forms the north – south axis. In addition, the commuter railway lines S1, S2 and S25 cross the western part of the district.
